I have always thought this would be a really cool mod to do in Oblivion. I was thinking it through before i knew about this mod but I was planning a medieval mods and there would be kingdoms and you could take over cities and stuff. And i was wondering if you think if say you join the Holorian army would you think there would be quests of battles? Like having 20 NPCs vs 20 NPCs? or even more? cause i think that would be really cool. having armies face other armies. and you would on do these quests if you join that faction/guild you know? and basicly it would be like a campaign and you would fight battle after battle but you have to travel on foor/horse there WITH the army. So it could take you know a couple of days to get to the battle.

Yes. This is a main part of the mod in my view. I envisaged a siege, much like Caesar at Alexandria. A Holorian Army holed up in a strongpoint in a town, defending it. The player has to get out from the siege across the rooftops (the siege happens whilst you are there serving with the army as a scout.) Then travel to the nearest major garrison. Troops would then set out and gather near the town and raise the siege.

That was just one of them, envisaged for the desert area somewhere. To the north a whole part of the mod would be an invasion sweeping down into the main cities.

Hey Bloodboy,

That sounds really fun. Could I make some suggestions? I wouldn't do 40 NPCs at once; while it's possible, people wouldn't like it, cuz their computer will lag. Perhaps ten on ten? But otherwise, I really envy you. Perhaps I could encorporate my Doraeans into one of your battles. Though I said in my post that the Northern Doraeans are not at war with the Holorians, the Mardak tribe is always itching for blood. Maybe we could have like a legion vs hun style battle, with the Holorians trying to defend a settlement from Doraean horsemen. Anyway, just wanted to throw that out there.

Thanks,

Kroot

I like that idea too. I think horseback warfare has been tried before and found to be so script heavy and flawed that it was given up. Having said that theres nothing wrong with soldiers riding up to a point, dismounting, loosing their arrows then remounting and retreating. That would be irritating for infantry.
There are also numerous old battlefields round about so we could have fun placing the skeletons etc and having the vultures that I have since added into the mod circling ovehead.

haha that sounds so sick!!! we should all plan out areas where battles where and make them travel points you know? like you're able to visit where these great battles took place!!! and having vultures would be a great idea!! or even crows too!?!? haha and yea i do understand that 40 v. 40 would be insane on ppls computers =P so yeah like 10 on 10 wouldnt be bad. Also the horseback riding isnt a bad thing and it would be soooo annoying for infantry =P And I could totaly see the Skaya attack the Doraean people because to what I see you're just about the closest race to me =P that has nothing in my way you know?

I tried this last week, seeing how many NPC's could be on-screen fighting. I think 10 vs 10 is okay, although it gets a little laggy. I tried 20 vs 20 I think and although I didn't spend any time on scripts for combat, I just went to the Karith Desert, threw down some Holorian Soldiers and Karith soldiers I made up, put their aggresiveness towards each other at -100, and let them go. 20 vs 20 caused a big gay huddle and half the people sheathed their swords and started walking around ignoring the combat going on, so it didn't work out well. With some well placed scripts though, I think we could do a 10 vs 10 battle, but perhaps more constant with respawns that happen out of the players viewing.

It would be good to see something along these lines. There is so much scope for larger battles than single combat. An attack on a fort, caravan, ambush etc
